Magic at SCSDB

Today and every day something truly magical happens at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind. This magic is not made with wands or spells, but rather this is the magic of possibility, opportunity, and transformation.  This magic happens when you see the job of a child learning to sign with friends or when students read a page of braille all by themselves.  This magic happens at graduation when our students walk across the stage with confidence, pride and the knowledge that they are ready to embrace their futures.

Our magic is created through care, dedication and the belief that every child deserves to thrive.  Our teachers, staff and donors work together to give our students the tools they need to overcome challenges and discover their own strengths.

When you walk our halls and campus, you see the magic in the joy of a child learning to play one of eleven sports that we offer our students. You hear it in the music of laughter as students celebrate big and small accomplishments.  You feel it in the determination of young people who know that no obstacle is too great when they have encouragement and opportunity on their side.
